How To Get To Heaven From Graham

Directions are important to all of us. Some of us have a harder time asking for them than do others but when all is said and done, if we are planning to go anywhere, we first need to know how to get there.

God desires that everyone go to Heaven, in fact the Bible tells us that this is His desire: “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” 2 Peter 3:9

The Way is Clear

Jesus knew that there would be many different people proclaiming many different views about Heaven and so He wanted to make it as simple as He could. Since He is the only one that had been in Heaven before, He is the best authority on how to get there. He said, “I am the way the truth and the life, No one comes unto the Father, but by Me.” John 14:6

Jesus then is the one and only way to get to Heaven.

How Does It Work?

It is as easy as the ABC’s.

First ADMIT that you are a sinner. The Bible tells us that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” Romans 3:23. We cannot work hard enough or long enough to earn our way to God. The Bible tells us again in Isaiah 64:6 “But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags;” There are none of us that can do enough good works, join enough organizations or simply be good enough to get into heaven by our own good deeds.

Second you must BELIEVE that God loved you so much that He sent his only Son, Jesus, to die for you, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” John 3:16. You also must BELIEVE that Jesus loved you so much that He was willing to die for you, “Who his own self (speaking of Jesus) bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness:” 2 Peter 2:24

The third and final step is to CALL on Jesus to save you. “that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved” Acts 2:21.

Ask Jesus right now to save you and He will. You talk to Him in prayer. If you are not sure what to say just tell Him what is on your heart right now. Tell Him that you agree that you are a sinner and that you believe in or trust in Him to save you from your sins and give to you eternal life. It’s like sitting in a chair. You can look at the chair, know who made the chair and feel fairly confident that the chair will support your weight, but until you actually sit in the chair you have not trusted in the chair. You can know a lot of things about Jesus and His teaching, but until as an act of your own free will you ask Him to save you and place all your trust in Him you cannot be saved.

If you prayed that and meant it with all your heart, the Bible says, ”If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9. That means you are forgiven your sins.

You need to tell someone else about your decision just as soon as possible. Find a good Bible believing and gospel preaching church and let them know what Christ has done in your life. Make sure that the church you select believes that the entire Bible is God’s fully inspired Word. If you live close to Riverside Baptist Church we would be more than happy to celebrate with you in your decision to follow Christ.
